Firbush (2)
Only two hours after arriving in The Highlands mondaymorning, we peddled out in open canoes on the wonderful, amazingly beautiful Loch Tay. Having reached the other side of the lake we went to get a pint at a local pub, then attached all the canoes to each other like a 5-boat Catamaran, put a sail up, and sailed our way back to Firbush. :D
Although the accomodation was 'simple', all food and outdoor activities were inluded, the three-person rooms were nice, and the building was located on one of the nicest spots on the lakeside. Gorgeous.
The second day we collected a mountainbike, climbed a hilly road and raced downhill into the nearby town. My god do you pick up speed (and adrenaline) on those things! The town was nice, and we visited a small ancient graveyard for which you had to get a key at the tourist infomation centre. Imagine going into a forrest much like the one in Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, surrounded by a stream with little waterfalls. Imagine having a house up there. Sigh. :-)
The day is long if you get up at 8.00am in the morning, so on to the next activity. Someone talked me into windsurfing. Sure, great. What, I have to wear a weatsuit?
It keeps you warm though, and the Loch was pretty cold! Although the wind was strong, it went quite well. So we decided to go again this morning, and I managed to only fall of once today. :-)
However, the best bit of windsurfing is that, since you sail out quite far, the instructor (a nice bloke!), comes out to get you back on a pretty damn fast engine driven speedboat. Damn I liked that! Can't have enough adrenaline rushes in one day.
The sun came out yesterday afternoon and didn't leave since. So after having a nice warm shower, we spent hours outside in the sun, or playing ping pong. And although attacked by midges, we set up a real decent campfire last night on the nearby beach.
Not surprisingly, nobody wanted to leave today. And if other people hadn't arrived, we probably would have tried to stay for a couple more days. Tired and sad we undertook the 2,5 hour journey back to the city. But since the weather was like it has been in Holland for the past couple of days (better actually, sunny, warm and windy instead of hot and moist), we decided not to end it just yet. So we all went to the Meadows (the city park), chilled and played frisbee.
Life doesn't get any better than this.
The first photos (there will be more).
